Quite often we find that our customers are looking to and connect a canopy to a building to provide seamless protection from the weather. In non-technical language this type of canopy is usually referred to as a lean-to canopy. The good news is that a canopy from Aura will probably give you many more options for a structure, either attached to or adjacent to a building, than you might think.
The most obvious of our canopy styles to choose would be our linear style (please see the links on the right hand side of this page). This canopy is constructed using our unique and patented TEXO® panel system. Using this system the architectural fabric of your choice is held in flat form and in pretension so there will be no distortions due to wind or snow. The use of architectural fabric will not only give you a wide choice of colours and effects, but a number of further key advantages.
You will achieve a level of light transmission that is virtually indistinguishable from glass (depending on fabric chosen) however the solution will weigh about 1/10th of the glass alternative. The lightweight nature of our linear canopies allows you to cover a large span with less supporting structure. It will impose much lower loads onto the building it is attached to than glass. This is an important consideration when looking at adding a lean-to canopy to an older building.
A lean-to canopy, using the Aura linear TEXO® panel system, will have a much longer life expectancy (expected design life 20 years, fabric guaranteed for 10 years) than a polycarbonate equivalent and will not discolour. However it’s often the heat reflective properties of the fabric that our customers most appreciate. Depending on the fabric chosen the heat reflection levels can be well over 70%, meaning that the dreaded greenhouse effect of polycarbonate canopies is no longer a concern and you will find that the building interior beneath the canopy is corresponding cooler too.
Additional options for your lean-to canopy
If you are concerned that your building structure may be too vulnerable to attach a lean-to canopy, we can offer a number of freestanding canopy options. These freestanding canopies can be built adjacent to the building with non-structural infill panels and rainwater handling designed to create the seamless effect of a lean-to canopy. Please see the links to our canopy styles on the right hand side of this page and then give us a call to discuss your requirements. With 20 years experience and over 1600 canopy installations behind us we are confident that we can provide options that will meet even the trickiest of briefs.
